A crash bar is the part that pays for itself the first time your motorcycle tips over. With a 250-kilo adventure bike tipping over on a gravel path or in the verge, without a crash bar, you'll quickly pay more for fairing parts, radiator damage, and cylinder heads than the bar cost.

Yakk EXP in black and orange, for, among others, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 (from 2019), the KTM 790 and 890 Adventure (from 2019), the KTM 390 Adventure (from 2025), and the BMW R1300 GS (from 2023). Puig for the BMW F900GS (2024 and later) and the R1250GS (2018 and later).

This is the point most often misunderstood, and neither is a substitute for the other. A lower crash bar protects the engine block, radiator, and the bottom of the frame. This is where the most expensive damage occurs. An upper crash bar protects the tank and the fairing parts above it. For complete protection, you need both. If you have to choose, start with the lower: radiator damage will stop you, a dented tank will not.

Check the year of manufacture and version. Crash bars attach to the frame at fixed points, and these shift between model years. A bar for an R1250GS will not fit an R1300GS. Be aware that some crash bars may restrict the mounting of certain panniers or luggage systems. If you ride with cases, check if they are compatible. In doubt?
