Warm clothing and undergarments for motorcycling

Staying warm on a motorcycle is all about layers, not one thick jacket. Wind is the biggest thief of warmth, and what you wear under your motorcycle gear determines whether you retain that warmth or become clammy and cold. In this collection, you'll find everything that goes under your outer jacket: baselayers, thermal mid-layers, heated clothing, and protective underwear.

Heated and Thermal Layers

For the coldest days, there's the Gerbing 12V heated liner with Microwire, which connects to your motorcycle battery and distributes warmth across your entire upper body. It works best under a windproof outer jacket.Without power, the Leatt ADV Thermaflow mid-layers in 3.5 and 5.5 insulate without restricting your freedom of movement. The Furygan Bjorn with Primaloft insulation is a full-fledged padded jacket for winter.

The layer against your skin must wick away moisture, because trapped sweat cools you down as soon as you stop. From Lindstrands, you'll find the Longs, Dry Tee, Dry Sweater, Dry Wind, and Dry Shorts, plus the Marieberg and Alva leggings. From Alpinestars, there's the Ride Tech v2. Cotton doesn't work here: it actually retains moisture.

Protective Underwear by Bowtex

A separate category: shirts and leggings that are certified motorcycle clothing themselves and are worn under regular clothing. The Optimal line is CE class AA, the Elite V2 achieves class AAA. Available for men and women. Intended for protection, not warmth, and the solution for those who ride in a jacket that looks good but has little abrasion resistance.

Baselayer against the skin, over that an insulating or heated layer, and a windproof outer layer.
