The brand was founded by Henri Gorthuis, who worked as a mechanic in Grand Prix racing in the 1980s, and is now in the hands of the third generation. The exhausts are made in the Netherlands and are used worldwide by racing teams.

For a two-stroke engine, the exhaust bend determines the engine's character. HGS matches the shape and volume to the engine block, focusing on controllable torque rather than a sharp power band.
