What this oil does

Engine oil does more work in a motorcycle than in a car. In most motorcycles, the same oil lubricates the engine, gearbox, and wet clutch. This means that the oil must simultaneously lubricate, cool, carry away dirt, and maintain enough grip so that your clutch does not slip.

If you ride with oil that is too old or too little, you will first notice a heavier shifting gearbox and an engine that gets warmer than normal.

What to pay attention to when choosing

• The prescribed viscosity is stated in your instruction manual and varies per model and per year of manufacture. Always go by that, not by what fits another motorcycle.
• If your motorcycle has a wet clutch, the oil must be suitable for it. Car oil with friction-reducing additives can cause the clutch to slip.
• Check how much oil your engine needs, including a filter change. This often saves half a liter compared to the specification without a filter.

Changing oil

Preferably change the oil when the engine is at operating temperature, as the oil will flow out more easily and carry away more dirt. Replace the sealing ring of the drain plug and tighten it to the prescribed torque. Then fill up to the middle of the sight glass or between the marks on the dipstick, let the engine run briefly, and check again.
