Putoline Genuine V-Twin Mineral keeps the transmission lubricated, even under high loads. Volume 15 liters.
Viscosity 20W-50. The required viscosity for your engine can be found in the owner's manual and varies by model and year of manufacture.
Specifically formulated for V-twin engines.
When you need separate gearbox oil
Engines with separate lubrication have a dedicated filling for the gearbox. This is often the case with many two-strokes, and with some scooters and quads. In most four-stroke engines, the gearbox shares the engine oil, so you won't need this.
If you're unsure, check if your engine has a separate drain plug and filler opening for the gearbox. If not, it shares the oil with the engine.
What to pay attention to
- Gearbox oil comes in various viscosities. Thicker isn't automatically better: oil that's too thick makes shifting stiffer, especially when it's cold.
- If the clutch runs in the same oil, use oil that is suitable for this.
- The capacity of a gearbox is small, often less than one liter. Measure precisely instead of filling by eye.
Changing the oil
Gearbox oil gets dirty due to wear on the gears, not combustion. Change the oil according to the interval in your owner's manual, and more frequently for cross and enduro bikes. A gray or milky color indicates water in the gearbox, in which case there's something else going on than just old oil.
