What coolant does

Coolant dissipates heat, lowers the freezing point, and raises the boiling point. In addition, it protects aluminum parts and the water pump from corrosion. The latter is why you should not use tap water, even in summer.

What to pay attention to

• Do not mix different types of coolant. If in doubt, flush the system and refill it completely.
• If you need to dilute, use demineralized water. Tap water leaves behind limescale.
• Bleed the system after filling. Air in the cooling jacket causes localized overheating while the gauge shows nothing unusual.
