Putoline DOT 5.1 transfers the pressure from your lever to the brake caliper. Content 500 ml.
Why brake fluid ages
Glycol-based brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. The more water it contains, the lower the boiling point. During prolonged braking, the fluid can then locally start to boil, and vapor can be compressed. You will notice this as a lever that suddenly reaches the handlebar.
Most manufacturers prescribe periodic replacement of brake fluid, even if you don't ride many kilometers. This interval is stated in your owner's manual.
What to look for
- DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 are both glycol-based. DOT 5 is silicone-based and should not be mixed with them.
- Always use an unopened bottle. An opened bottle has already absorbed moisture.
- Brake fluid corrodes paint. Cover your tank and immediately rinse off any spills with water.
