Mixing or Dosing

A two-stroke engine receives its lubrication through the fuel. For older engines and most dirt bikes, you mix the oil with the gasoline yourself. Engines with an oil pump dose automatically and have a separate oil tank.

The correct mixing ratio varies per engine and sometimes per use. It is stated in your instruction manual. Never mix by feel: too little oil will ruin your engine, too much causes soot and a fouled exhaust.

What to pay attention to

• Mix in a clean jerrycan, not in the tank, and shake well.
• Do not mix more than you will use within a few weeks. Gasoline with oil in it ages.
• If you drive with E10, keep in mind that this fuel ages faster.
