Short answer: if you ride a lot and want a sturdy leather glove, choose the Gerbing Xtreme XRL or the Xtreme EVO. If you prefer a lighter glove made of leather and textile, the Gerbing Xtreme Air and Xtreme Cosmo are the logical choice. If you want batteries included and control from your phone, look at the Furygan Heat Genesis. For women there is the Gerbing Xtreme Ladies with a slimmer fit. If you would rather keep riding in your regular gloves, heated bar muffs or heated grips are an alternative.
Why heated gloves?
On a motorcycle your hands sit fully in the wind and barely move. That is why they cool down faster than the rest of your body. Cold fingers react more slowly on the clutch and brake, and you notice that exactly when you can least afford it. A thick winter glove helps up to a point, but costs you feel on the bars. A heated glove keeps your hands warm without having to ride in a bulky mitt.
What to look for
- Power: directly from the 12 volt motorcycle battery, from a battery pack in the cuff, or both. On the motorcycle battery the glove heats for as long as you ride. With a battery pack you move freely without a cable, but heating time is limited.
- Where the heating sits: only on the back of the hand, or also around the fingers and thumb. Your fingertips get cold first.
- Settings: every glove in this overview has three heat settings. A low setting extends battery life considerably.
- Waterproof membrane: wet hands cool down much faster. All Gerbing models here have a Hipora membrane.
- Protection: it is still a motorcycle glove. Look for knuckle protection and CE certification to EN 13594.

Gerbing Xtreme XRL: the leather glove for high mileage
The XRL is full leather, with reinforced knuckle protection, Thinsulate insulation and a Hipora membrane that is waterproof, windproof and breathable. The heating covers the entire back of the hand, all fingers, the thumb and the fingertips, at 28 watts per pair. Each glove has a button with an LED for three settings. You connect it to the 12 volt motorcycle battery, or ride on a 12 volt battery pack. It also works with a 7 volt battery, but then only up to the middle setting. There is a visor wiper on the left thumb and the index finger works on a touchscreen. A glove for riders who simply keep riding through winter, including longer trips.
Gerbing Xtreme EVO: the newest leather model
The EVO heats the whole hand, including around the fingers, with MicrowirePRO. The push button switches between three settings: blue is 33 percent, orange 66 percent and red 100 percent. The outer is 0.6 mm full-aniline leather with a goatskin palm, with a Hipora membrane, Thinsulate insulation and a brushed lining inside. Add hard knuckle protection, a touchscreen pad, a visor wiper and CE certification to EN 13594:2015. Gerbing gives a lifetime warranty on the heating elements. The box includes a cable kit with a long Y-cable for the motorcycle battery. Batteries are sold separately, and the highest setting only works with the 12 volt Xtreme battery.
Gerbing Xtreme Air and Xtreme Cosmo: leather and textile
On paper these two are very similar. Both have a goatskin palm, a nylon textile back, softshell knuckle protection and a long cuff against the wind. Inside is a Hipora membrane with Thinsulate insulation. The heating is 28 watts per pair over the fingers, thumb and back of the hand, with three settings on the glove itself. You ride on the 12 volt motorcycle battery or on a 7 or 12 volt battery pack. According to Gerbing a battery pack gives roughly 2 to 5 hours, depending on the setting. Textile is more supple than leather, so you keep more feel on the bars. The Xtreme Air is the most affordable Gerbing in this overview.
Gerbing Xtreme Ladies: made for a woman's hand
Not a unisex glove in a small size, but a dedicated model with a slimmer fit around the wrist and fingers. The outer is matte full-aniline leather, with reinforced knuckle protection, extra finger protection and CE certification to EN 13594:2015. Here too, 28 watts per pair, three settings with LED and a Hipora membrane. The highest setting is locked from the factory and you can unlock it yourself.
Furygan Heat Genesis: with batteries and app
The Heat Genesis is the only glove in this overview that comes with batteries: two 7.4V 2200 mAh LiPo batteries and a USB charging cable. The heating sits on the back of the hand and the fingers, with extra warmth under the index finger. You choose from three settings. With "1-click mode" you control both gloves at once, and with the My Fury Connect app (iOS and Android) you set the level and pre-heat the gloves. Also a waterproof and breathable membrane, a thermal lining, knuckle protection, a microfibre reinforced palm and a long cuff with double hook-and-loop closure.
Battery pack or motorcycle battery?
On the motorcycle battery a glove heats as long as the engine is running. That is ideal for long rides, but you are tied to a cable that you have to disconnect at every stop. With a battery pack you get on and off without any hassle, but at some point the heat runs out. With the Gerbing Xtreme 12V battery kit, Gerbing quotes roughly 7 hours on the lowest setting, 4 hours on the middle and 2 hours on the highest. If you mainly commute or ride short trips, a battery pack is the easiest. If you ride long days, the motorcycle battery is the safe choice. The Gerbing models can do both.
Rather not wear heated gloves?
You can also put the heat on the handlebars. Heated bar muffs slide over your grips and you ride underneath them in your regular gloves. The Oxford Heated Muffs are neoprene with waterproof seams and a fleece lining, with three settings and a 12 volt battery connection. Another route is heated grips, such as the Oxford Hotgrips Pro 2.0 with five settings and automatic control. They warm your palms, but not the backs of your hands in the wind. Read more in our heated grips guide.
Which heated glove suits you?
| How you ride | Look at |
|---|---|
| High mileage, also in winter, sturdy leather | Gerbing Xtreme XRL |
| The newest leather model with hard knuckles | Gerbing Xtreme EVO |
| More feel on the bars, leather and textile | Gerbing Xtreme Air or Xtreme Cosmo |
| Women's fit | Gerbing Xtreme Ladies |
| Batteries included, app control | Furygan Heat Genesis |
| Rather keep your own gloves | Oxford Heated Muffs or Hotgrips |
Getting the size right
A heated glove has to fit snugly. Too loose, and the heating does not touch your fingers so it feels less warm. Too tight, and it restricts blood flow so you end up with cold fingers anyway. Measure the circumference of your hand across the knuckles and compare it with the size chart on the product page. If in doubt, use our size advisor or contact us.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the battery of heated motorcycle gloves last?
That depends on the setting. With the Gerbing Xtreme 12V battery kit, Gerbing quotes roughly 7 hours on the lowest setting, 4 hours on the middle and 2 hours on the highest. On the motorcycle battery the Gerbing gloves heat for as long as you ride.
Can I connect heated gloves to my motorcycle battery?
The Gerbing Xtreme models in this overview can be connected directly to the 12 volt motorcycle battery. The Furygan Heat Genesis runs on its included batteries.
Are heated motorcycle gloves waterproof?
All Gerbing models here have a Hipora membrane that is waterproof, windproof and breathable, and the Furygan Heat Genesis has a waterproof and breathable membrane. In prolonged rain, Gerbing recommends treating the outer occasionally with a water-repellent product.
Which is better: heated gloves or heated grips?
Heated grips mainly warm your palms. Heated gloves also warm the backs of your hands and your fingers, which is the side that catches the wind. In real cold, heated gloves are therefore warmer. Heated grips are easier to use, though, because nothing is attached to your hands.
Do heated gloves work on a touchscreen?
On the Gerbing Xtreme XRL, EVO, Air and Cosmo and on the Furygan Heat Genesis, the index finger works on a touchscreen, so you can operate your navigation without taking the glove off.
