Where to use grease
Grease stays put where oil would run off. On a motorcycle, you use it on wheel bearings, steering head bearings, swingarm pivot points, axle bodies, and threaded connections that you want to be able to loosen later.
What to watch out for
- First, clean the surface. Applying grease over sand acts like grinding paste.
- Use grease sparingly on nearby brake parts. Grease on a brake disc is not easily removed.
- When installing a rear axle, a thin layer on the axle is enough to make it easy to remove later.
